what was broken

It was just a bad battery, if anybody cares. A bad battery, distended and wedged into its slot under my laptop like a fat kid into the seat of a carnival ride: it was pushing on the frame and casing everything to go wonky. (It’s technical terms like that that make me happy: “wonky.”)

This cheery revelation in fact vivisected the price of repair to said computer by more than half the original quote—the one I got when I just walked in off the street and tried to explain my personal assessment of the technical problems to the dauntingly-ebullient Mac help girl without the physical thing there in my hands to demonstrate.

It’s nice when things go well.
