Christine Oliver over at guardian.co.uk has compiled a state-of-the-art interactive guide to this year’s Man Booker shortlist. I still haven’t read The Children’s Book, AS Byatt’s latest nominated offering, and I’m unlikely to score a copy of it any time sooner than Christmas, so delving into the coverage is driving me slightly mad; but in a queasily anxious way, not a pulling out steel tacks with my teeth kind of way.

Current Man Booker shortlists often make the best candidates for next year’s reading. Once all the offerings have ripened sufficiently, their covers go soft.
